TEMPORARY CENTRE CLOSURE
With the ongoing situation and the latest government advice around Covid-19, we have taken the decision to close Goldsmiths Community Centre to the public for at least the end of April. We all want to do everything we can to stop the spread of the virus, especially with those elderly and most at risk members of our community in mind, so it seems only sensible that we make this decision.
But this is only a physical closure. Keep checking this website and social media for details of some our classes and activities which we will be moving online, where possible.
Although the centre is closed to the public our office remains open for inquiries every Monday from 9am to 3pm and Tuesday - Thursday from 10am to 6pm.
Goldsmiths Community Association, the charity that runs the centre, relies heavily on hires and the closure will have a big impact on our income. If you are able to make a donation, however large or small, please consider contributing to our charity.
To address the unprecedented Public Health challenge that we are facing, the voluntary and community sector are coming together to serve the needs of Lewisham residents.
Lewisham Local, Voluntary Services Lewisham and Age UK Lewisham & Southwark are working with Lewisham Council and all of our local partners in the community to coordinate our response so that we can help the most vulnerable in our communities. Goldsmiths Community Centre are supporting this initiative.
The response will focus on:
The provision of accurate, up to date information
The delivery of food and wider supplies to vulnerable individuals
Befriending and social isolation support, using phone and IT techniques wherever possible
Support to those who are looking to volunteer or assist directly in their local area
Providing toolkits for community action to ensure that people are safe as they support each other
If you need support, please click here. If you are looking to get involved and volunteer, please click here. Or call 03330 150378 – The phone number will be charged at the standard network rate but calls from mobiles may be higher (please check with your provider)
COMMUNITY SOLIDARITY IN CRISIS
During the health crisis, foodbank usage is expected to go up. Many effects of the crisis will hit especially hard on those living with food insecurity and the impact of school closures will be especially tough for families who receive free school meals. The Mayor of Lewisham has launched a fund to help Lewisham Foodback manage this increased demand and people have shown extraordinary generosity already.

Coming soon - an exciting new project making "fiddle quilts" for people with Dementia
We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from Lewisham Council's Neighbourhood Community Development Partnership.
We are working with local partners, All4Mind, Ageing Well in Lewisham and the Positive Ageing Council to promote awareness of these items that can help many people living with Dementia.
"Fiddle quilts" are great for people with dementia and we are using up materials that have been donated to the Apple Tree Shop as well as training local volunteers in sewing and crafting skills.
Watch this space for more information will follow soon.
Pilot quilt made by Liz, our Vice Chair and "modelled" by Keith, one of our longstanding centre volunteers.
We had a great time at our Mixtape Family Festival on 29th June. This Included a tribute to the Windrush Generation. There was a range of entertainment from our talented local community, food and drink and fun for all the family. Thanks to Lewisham Council for funding the event.
